Roughly half the people in Wisconsin are thinking about starting a business or have started a business, according to a new study of the state’s entrepreneurial climate. The study, “ A Medium for Growth: The State of Entrepreneurship in Wisconsin,” reported the strikingly high figures after surveying 1,144 randomly selected households across the state last year.

High Stakes Game of Risk: How to Attract More Federal Dollars to Southeastern Wisconsin: March 2006 Wisconsin Public Policy Forum Regional Report
Wisconsin can do better in terms of attracting federal investment, the report says. Some people say Wisconsin does poorly because it lacks a large defense industry or representatives on Congressional appropriations committees. But the report says community leaders can take action to attract federal dollars. It recommends the region be more aggressive by promoting larger projects, investing more local funds in such efforts, and doing a better job of marketing existing local efforts that are doing well. The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, a major sponsor of research on entrepreneurship, has a clearinghouse for understanding entrepreneurship across disciplines - Entrepreneurship Research Portal. The portal provides research, as well as listings of events and data sets targeted to the entrepreneurship research and policy community. The portal also allows users to submit research, events or calls for papers to be included on the site.
