Fred Lewis approached business the way he first approached woodworking. He learned it by doing it.
But when the time came for Lewis Custom Built Cabinets’ most recent expansion, the retired Harley-Davidson machinist finally brought in an apprentice of sorts. He qualified for a grant from the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Network to hire a business plan specialist, who in turn helped Lewis secure financing to buy a 4,200-square-foot building at 3433 N. 35th St. in Milwaukee that more than tripled his workspace.
